Say Hey! To Nikki Krueger

When I first heard about Crossfit, protein shakes and muscle t's came to mind. A bunch of men, grunting and talking about their latest supplement programs. A vivid image played over and over in my head - it's not for me, I'm not strong enough or fit enough to start. I'm not dedicated enough, there isn't enough time in the day, blah blah blah.

I was a 3 sport athlete all through high school and after JUST having my second kid, I missed my old self. I missed wearing pants with zippers, I missed being able to run around with my kids and most of all, I missed being happy with myself in the mirror.

So on blind faith, I signed up for basics after a suggestion from good friends. The first day, I almost threw up from rowing. The second day, the same. I thought about quitting so many times. But with each new class, I learned something about myself. Maybe I didn't have to be an overweight mom, maybe I could still be competitive, maybe I could actually get out of my maternity pants! Maybe, just maybe, I could wear a swimsuit...in public...

Crossfit 1936 and  it's members helped me through some of the lowest points of my adult life after losing my mom to breast cancer and health disease. I have heart disease and high blood pressure on both sides and after living through her death, I promised myself I wouldn't do that to my kids. I would fight. Every. Day. to make sure their mom was healthy, happy and here for the long haul. Crossfit keeps my mind clear and my emotions in check. It's more than a workout, it's working toward a longer life. My kids are the reason I keep going. They are watching and  I want them to know that I'm motivated, passionate about something and that I kick a little ass.

You don't have to be fit to start. You don't need to own your own jump rope or lifting shoes. You don't have to be intimidated of the members that chalk up and do everything RX. You just have to make the decision that YOU are enough to fight for. Value yourself enough to start.

Here are some pictures of before and after starting CrossFit 1936. My advice is this - take the leap of faith. Trust yourself enough to know that you will succeed. At Crossfit 1936, you will find a tribe of people that are willing to do anything for you. A tribe that will sweat it out with you in class and in life.
